Five Reasons To Visit Loudonville This Summer

Loudonville, Ohio – The TV commercials say it’s already back to school time.  Tired of hearing “Mom, I’m bored” from the kids?  There is plenty of summer left to enjoy.  Before school starts, here are five reasons families can reconnect, in Loudonville.

Canoe Capital of Ohio

Since 1961 the Mohican River in Loudonville has been the center of canoeing in Ohio.  Today six canoe liveries offer leisurely trips on the Mohican River from 30 minutes with two to three hours being typical, about seven miles.  Visitors can enjoy this State Scenic River in a canoe, kayak, raft, even a tube.  As all canoe liveries are also campgrounds, spend the night or weekend camping in an RV, pop-up trailer, or tent.  (Local RV rental and camping supplies are available.)  Some campgrounds also have cabins from basic to deluxe.

Mohican State Park & Forest

With nearly 6,000 acres of rugged woodlands, Mohican State Park and Forest is an outdoor lovers’ paradise.  Guests enjoy over 45 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of bridle trails, or 24.5 miles of challenging mountain bike trails.  Don’t miss Clear Fork Gorge Overlook, the 80 foot fire tower, or the Memorial Forest Shrine.  How about a picnic at one of many scenic locations throughout the Park?  Spend the night at the Park Campground or in Mohican State Park Lodge, which has specials and discounts.  The State Park has hours, even days of enjoyment.

Malabar Farm State Park

Malabar Farm is a working farm where guests can take a self-guided farm tour.   Watch the farm animals in the barnyard and take a wagon ride to view the farming firsthand.  Their Visitors Education Center has over 30 interactive exhibits about agriculture, energy and the environment.   Fish in one of the farm’s stocked ponds, explore a cave, or hike over 12 miles of scenic wood trails.  Tour the “Big House”, a 32-room country estate, for a small fee.

Tree Frog Canopy Tours

For the thrill of your life, experience Ohio’s “fastest, longest, highest” zip line.  Tree Frog take guests on an extraordinary trip through the rugged wilderness filled with deep forests, steep hills, and rocky outcroppings.  Over two and one-half hours on seven zip lines, 2 suspended bridge, and two rappels!  Reservations are suggested, especially on weekends.

Even More Fun

How about fishing on Clear Fork Gorge River, or at Pleasant Hill and Charles Mill Lake Parks?  (Fishing supplies available at local stores.)  Swimming is available at indoor and outdoor pools, sand beaches at Pleasant Hill and Charles Mill Lake Parks.  Many campgrounds have pools or ponds for guests.  Boat rentals available at the two Lake Parks includes waverunners, ski boats, ski pontoon boats, pontoon boats, and kayaks.  Bring your own watercraft too.  How about go-carts or miniature golf?  Three nearby horseback riding stables complete the fun.

Loudonville has lots to do for the entire family.  So the answer to “Mom, I’m bored” is easy.  Pack up the car and take the kids to Loudonville.  It’s close by and affordable.  Kids are kids only once in a lifetime.  Don’t let another summer pass by without creating some great memories.
